Unlawful Possession of a Weapon Charges Issued in Holmdel

Local Holmdel NJ Aggravated Assault Charges

Defendants Alleged to Have Shot Paintballs at Holmel Police Officer

A twenty-one year old male from Monroe and a twenty-three year old male from Middletown were arrested and charged with a slue of charges following an incident that took place in Holmdel, New Jersey a couple weeks ago. According to the Middletown Patch, while a Holmdel police officer was on routine patrol near Main Street, he felt a thump as a motor vehicle heading in the opposite direction speed past him a high rate of speed. Not thinking much of it, the officer turned around and pulled over the  vehicle for speeding.  The driver of the motor vehicle, the Monroe resident was issued a summons for speeding. The Defendants were then released from the scene. However, a few moments later, the officer noticed that the front of his vehicle had actually been struck by what he believed was a paintball. Based on his observations, the officer issued a BOLO to the surrounding police departments for the Defendant’s vehicle. A short time later, a Matawan police officer located the Defendant’s vehicle and a motor vehicle stop was conducted. By this point in time, only the driver was present.

It is unclear at this point in time under what legal basis the car was searched under but a search of the motor vehicle was conducted. Located inside the vehicle the officers uncovered two paintball guns, paintballs, CO2 cartridges and a folding knife. The folding knife the Defendant allegedly immediate that he shoplifted from a Walmart. The Defendant was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and aggravated assault. The other Defendant was arrested a short time later at his Middletown home and he was formally charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and obstruction. Based on the way in which the Defendant’s were charged, it appears that the officers believe that the driver, the Monroe resident was the one in fact who sho the paintball gun at the officers vehicle. These are serious felony offenses in New Jersey and will be transferred from Holmdel Township to the Monmouth County Superior Court for disposition.
